From the little neurobiology background I have, I would venture a guess to say that the preconceived notion of what is supposed to happen acts a triggering signal that would create an change in the membrane permeability of the neuron. And that would in turn cause an action potential and be the beginning of some sort of effect. So to dissect it with my previous example, if we were, theoretically, under the assumption that these Melatonin supplements truly had no effect. We do not know whether actors in the Choral Odes read their lines clad in goatskins, or if goats were bestowed as prizes; we do know, however, that Aristotle reconfigured the more bucolic play tradition, and, in his Poetics, developed a technique founded on the tradition of regal grandeur, sweeping scope, and cosmic power. Thomas Hardy, one of the few Victorian tragic prose writers, undoubtedly draws from the tradition of Aristotelian Greek tragedy. Nevertheless, our thesis expresses skepticism in the precision and alacrity with which Hardy is equated with tragedy and conventional tragic form. It doesn’t matter why she called in sick or if it was her at the gas station. Jim still needs to find a solution to his problem before the presentation. How could he apply the character qualities you’ve learned about so far (persistence, enthusiasm, optimism, and self-control) in this situation? Being positive in this state of affairs and having the determination to get through this presentation. Being optimistic will help him give the performance without Sara. Jim can exhibit self-control by not getting upset and blaming everything on Sara, when he should be focusing on the presentation. Jim exhibiting self-control, being optimistic, being persistent and enthusiastic all plays a major role in the way he is going handle this problem. These qualities will help Jim to make new slides for his presentation and overcome the urge to be upset with Sara. His ability to show enthusiasm will help him to deliver his presentation to the CEO. What should he do? Jim should try and call Sara to see if she can email the slides. If he can’t get a hold of Sara, Jim can do the slides himself and go into the meeting with confidence and enthusiasm. The two poems under investigation in this paper, Death is a Dialogue by Emily Dickinson and Death by William Butler Yeats are short commentaries on death and what it represents for human beings. As it shall be seen, the poems evince a similar approach to the death theme, although they also show the marks of different historical contexts. Both poets are extremely original in their thinking and writing, nevertheless it is possible to identify the influences that molded their work. In her poem, Dickinson regards death as a mere separation between the body and the spirit before the passage into the afterlife. The brief poem has the form of a dramatic sequence, being structured as a dialogue between death and the human spirit. Yeats’ poem also speaks of death in derisive and ironic terms. Although the tone of the poem is indisputably ironic, the poem is severed by inner tensions: man seems to be able to conquer death but, at the same time, death holds absolute sway over his life. E ssentially, the two poems are comparable in their view of death, each transposing the ceaseless battle between the proud and lofty human spirit and the merciless death.Dickinson’s poem imagines a contention between death and the human spirit. The ‘dust’ is a metaphor for the material world that has only limited power when compared to the world of eternity. Ford, this dramatic sequence shows Dickinson’s desire to believe in eternity and heaven and to reject the rational, scientific proof: â€Å"The ‘Spirit’ in the dialogue represents Emily Dickinson's desire to believe in eternity, the ‘Dust’ represents the observed facts† (Ford 126). The battle between the rational and irrational is obvious in these lines.Dickinson twists the argument in favor of the human spirit, letting irrationality show its evidence and denying the validity of the scientific approaches to death. Thomas W. Ford observes that Dickison’s attitude towards death was markedly influenced by her tensioned relationship with religion, especially Puritanism. As the critic notes, Dickinson’s inner struggle with ultimate acceptance of religion is obvious in some of her letters and throughout her work: â€Å"Dickinson early in life was seriously worried over being left out of â€Å"Christ's love† since she had never personally experienced any form of conversion.Her interest in death was an aspect of a continuing and profound concern over her own salvation† (Ford 39). The second part brings the opposite view to light: man is also a murderer and he dominates death through his consummate knowledge of its inner workings. (Yeats 3)The last line of the stanza might seem an overstatement, at first glance. Yeats’ liberal assertion that â€Å"man has created death† has many different implications. On the one hand, man is able to be a murderer and thus he â€Å"knows death to the bone†. This is not the sole explanation however. The creation of death is obviously a paradox. In his pride, man does not fear death and is even able to deride. Harold Bloom contends that the poem implies death does not exist in fact, as Yeats ha d also argued in A Vision (Bloom 372). In this sense, the idea proposed by Yeats seems to be very similar to that of Emily Dickinson.However, on a closer look, the Irish poet entertains a somewhat different view of humanity’s relationship with death. As a modernist, he sees the resourcefulness of man’s creative spirit as apt to face death and defeat it. Man proudly ignores biological death not because he knows his soul will go to a Christian heaven afterwards, but because he believes in the impossibility of death. According to Yeats, man does not find salvation in the divinity as such, but in the creative forces that animate everything. The poet explores death from a modernist and aesthetic perspective: man is an inventor and a dauntless spirit and for him death does not exist.Thus, Dickinson’s and Yeats’ poems reveal different views of the same theme, each being influenced by the historical context in which he or she created. Both explore death from the point of view of man’s contention with biological constraints. However, the poets reach different conclusions: Dickinson takes refuge in the idea of salvation while Yeats advocates for man’s artistic powers.

Major General Samuel Crawford in the American Civil War Samuel Crawford - Early Life Career: Samuel Wylie Crawford was born November 8, 1827, at his familys home, Allandale, in Franklin County, PA.   Receiving his early education locally, he entered the University of Pennsylvania at age fourteen.   Graduating in 1846, Crawford desired to remain at the institution for medical school but was deemed too young.   Embarking on a masters degree, he wrote his thesis on anatomy before later being permitted to commence his medical studies.   Receiving his medical degree on March 28, 1850, Crawford elected to enter the US Army as a surgeon the following year.   Applying for an assistant surgeon position, he achieved a record score on the entrance exam.   Over the next decade, Crawford moved through a variety of posts on the frontier and commenced a study of the natural sciences.   Pursuing this interest, he submitted papers to the Smithsonian Institution as well as engaged with geographical societies in other countries.   Ordered to Charleston, SC in September 1860, Crawford served as a surgeon for Forts Moultrie and Sumter.   In this role, he endured the bombardment of Fort Sumter which signaled the beginning of the Civil War in April 1861.   Though the forts medical officer, Crawford oversaw a battery of guns during the fighting.   Evacuated to New York, he sought a career change the following month and received a majors commission in the 13th US Infantry. Arriving at the Battle of Gettysburg around noon on July 2, the Pennsylvania Reserves paused for brief respite near Powers Hill.   Around 4:00 PM, Crawford received orders to take his men south to aid in blocking an attack by Lieutenant General James Longstreets corps.   Moving out, Sykes removed one brigade and sent it to support the line on Little Round Top.   Reaching a point just north of that hill with his remaining brigade, Crawford paused as Union troops driven from the Wheatfield retreated through his lines.   With support from Colonel David J. Nevins VI Corps brigade, Crawford led a charge across Plum Run and drove back the approaching Confederates.   In the course of the attack, he seized the divisions colors and personally led his men forward.   Successful in halting the Confederate advance, the divisions efforts forced the enemy back across the Wheatfield for the night. Samuel Crawford - Overland Campaign: In the weeks after the battle, Crawford was compelled to take leave due to issues relating to his Antietam wound and malaria which he had contracted during his time in Charleston.   Resuming command of his division in November, he led it during the abortive Mine Run Campaign.   Surviving the reorganization of the Army of the Potomac the following spring, Crawford retained command of his division which served in Major General Gouverneur K. Warrens V Corps.   In this role, he took part in Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grants Overland Campaign that May which saw his men engaged at the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, and Totopotomoy Creek.   With the expiration of the bulk of his mens enlistments, Crawford was shifted to lead a different division in V Corps on June 2. A week later, Crawford took part in the beginning of the Siege of Petersburg and in August saw action at Globe Tavern where he was wounded in the chest.   Recovering, he continuing to operate around Petersburg through the fall and received a brevet promotion to major general in December.   On April 1, Crawfords division moved with V Corps and a force of Union cavalry to attack Confederate forces at Five Forks under the overall command of Major General Philip Sheridan.   Due to faulty intelligence, it initially missed the Confederate lines, but later played a role in the Union victory.   Ã‚   Samuel Crawford - Later Career: With the collapse of the Confederate position at Petersburg the next day, Crawfords men took part in resulting Appomattox Campaign which saw Union forces pursue Lees army west.   On April 9, V Corps aided in hemming in the enemy at Appomattox Court House which led to Lee surrendering his army.   With the end of the war, Crawford traveled to Charleston where he took part in ceremonies that saw the American flag re-hoisted above Fort Sumter.   Remaining in the army for another eight years, he retired on February 19, 1873 with the rank of brigadier general.   In the years after the war, Crawford earned the ire of several other Civil War leaders by repeatedly attempting to claim that his efforts at Gettysburg saved Little Round Top and were key to the Union victory. Finally, Netflix decided to contact Amazon and decided to move its entire technology system to Amazons Web Services. Netflix migrated from a primitive SCM based library management system, to a system that only requires a small team to manage a giant pool of data. The business requirements that drove the systems initial development is to improve the availability and reliability of the data in Netflix. Netflix mission is to always find a problem of any outages and to make sure the roots of them are found and fixed. Detecting issues before customers find them and fixing them automatically. The purpose for Netflix is to deliver a fast paced and reliable service. According to Kevin McEntee, who is Netflixs vice president in engineering, Netflix switched to a cloud computing system in order to focus their innovation around finding movies, rather than building bigger data centers. Netflix needs a systems that can deliver high quality streaming videos to customers all over the world. Cloud computing is a low cost system that doesnt need different servers to work on. With cloud computing, there is no need for waiting weeks on a server to be delivered. Netflix was able to update their system within under six months. This system allows hundreds and even thousands of servers to be used within minutes without having to talk to administrators. With Amazon Web Services, it gives Netflix the ability to bring massive amounts of capacity online in a small amount of time. In this system, it has a set of cloud  computing services that helps to build applications as well. These include Web/Mobile Applications, Big Data, Backup/Storage, Enterprise Applications and more. Some of the tools that Netflixs system includes is the Simian Army. The Simian Army is a series of tools that tests the cloud deployment by taking down certain systems. This system is bringing Netflix a new name in the technology world. It is inventing an entire new field of computer science in order for people to watch movies and TV shows on their TV or devices. The system brings the company benefits by having other companies using Netflixs products in their own cloud computing systems. With the cloud computing system, this will allow Netflix to deliver television-style programming over the internet and develop more technology to support its big System Evaluation 3 transition. In the upcoming years, Internet TV will replace regular TV. It is going to grow increasingly over the years and Netflix will be the leading company. Although nothing compares to Amazons Web Services, he still continues to explore all options. His goal in the future is to run Netflix completely from a cloud computing system. Netflix plans to expand its system so it can provide its customers with content and the service will get better.
